Our adventure begins in Surat Thani, where we'll explore the unique temple cave of Wat Singh before cycling to the tranquil Ratchaprapha Reservoir. We'll kayak amidst towering karst cliffs, discover hidden caves, and even spend a couple of nights in a deluxe floating hotel on the lake. The journey continues to Khao Sok National Park, where we'll cycle through breathtaking scenery, visit the Fish Temple, and relax in a beautiful resort nestled beneath the cliffs. We'll also explore the historic town of Takua Pa and experience the vibrant Sunday Walking Street Market.

The highlight of our trip is a sea kayaking excursion through the iconic Phang Nga Bay, where we'll paddle through emerald waters, explore sea caves, and encounter unique wildlife. We’ll also have the opportunity to participate in a native plant restoration project, joining locals in replanting orchid species near Au Leuk. Thailand bicycle tour day by day details  

day 1: Arrival in Surat Thani – Seafood & Setting the Scene

Welcome to Thailand! We'll meet you at Surat Thani Airport this afternoon and transfer you to our nearby lodge. After settling in and getting your bikes ready, we'll gather for a tour orientation and your first taste of the incredible southern Thai cuisine. Get ready for fresh seafood straight from the ocean!

day 2: Wat Singh & Ratchaprapha Reservoir – Temple Caves & Floating Paradise

After breakfast, we'll hop on our bikes and pedal through the flat coastal farmlands surrounding Surat Thani. In the distance, the dramatic karst mountains will grow taller and more distinct as we approach.  These seemingly impenetrable peaks reveal themselves to be a series of narrow, towering formations with flat valleys in between, providing easy passage. Our destination is the stunning Ratchaprapha Reservoir, where we'll take a boat to our deluxe floating resort.

day 3: Crystal Cave & Kayaking – Underwater Worlds & Cliffside Beauty

Today, we'll explore the wonders of Ratchaprapha Reservoir. A short boat ride takes us to the fascinating Crystal Cave.  In the afternoon, we'll grab kayaks and explore the shores and towering cliffs of this beautiful area. The colorful cliffs rising from the water make for incredible photos, and the clear floor of our floating hotel's lobby offers a glimpse into the underwater world teeming with fish.

day 4: Khao Sok National Park – Karst Landscapes & Fish Temples

We'll take a boat back to the dam and then cycle into the heart of Khao Sok National Park. The scenery here is absolutely magnificent, a feast for the eyes.  We'll stop at the quirky Fish Cave to feed its colorful inhabitants. Our day ends at a beautiful resort nestled beneath the dramatic karst cliffs. Enjoy some free time before dinner.

day 5: Takua Pa & Khao Lak Beach – Coastal Cycling & Historic Towns

Today, we cycle to the coast, taking quiet back roads to our destination: Khao Lak Beach. This up-and-coming beach area sits just north of the national park. Our lodge is in the heart of the main village, within easy walking distance of everything.  Tonight, weather permitting, we'll head to Takua Pa Old Town for their Sunday Walking Street Market, a chance to sample a variety of delicious Thai street food.

day 6: Phang Nga Bay Kayaking – Island Adventures & Sea Caves

Today, we'll trade our bikes for sea kayaks and explore the breathtaking islands of Phang Nga Bay. We'll paddle around the islands, passing under overhanging cliffs with stalactites reaching toward the sea. At low tide, we'll paddle through sea caves into the hollow centers of the islands, hoping to spot hornbills and monkeys. A delicious freshly cooked Thai lunch awaits us on board our support boat.

day 7: Phang Nga – Plantations & Karst Cliffs

We leave the coast behind for most of today's ride as we head inland, winding through the heart of the isthmus.  This area is a patchwork of small villages, farms, and rubber plantations, where they still harvest sap and make rubber using traditional methods. Our historic lodging tonight is in Phang Nga town, surrounded by the towering limestone cliffs that define the region.

day 8: Laem Sak – Community Tourism & Conservation
  • Cycling through palm oil plantations
  • Visiting a soft-shell crab nursery
  • Participating in orchid restoration (weather permitting)
Today's ride takes us through palm oil plantations to the dramatic karst cliffs that dominate this area.  We're headed to the small village of Laem Sak, where the community is promoting sustainable tourism. We'll visit a soft-shell crab nursery and, weather permitting, join the locals in restoring native orchid species to the forests.

day 9: Ao Nang Beach – Karst Landscapes & Coastal Beauty

Our final day of cycling takes us on a meandering route through the stunning karst landscapes. Our route is inland, not along the coast, but the views are incredible, and the cycling is mostly flat. We'll leave the main road before reaching Krabi town and head back to the coast, to our lodge at Ao Nang Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in the region, with towering cliffs plunging into the deep blue waters.

day 10: Ao Thalane Kayaking & Farewell Dinner – Mangroves & Seafood Feasts

We'll take to the ocean once more, exploring the Ao Thalane region near Krabi by sea kayak. This bay features dramatic canyons and thick mangrove forests, a stark contrast to the open seas and islands of Phang Nga Bay. We might spot monkeys or monitor lizards lounging in the trees. The afternoon is free for relaxation before we celebrate our memorable multisport tour with a delicious seafood dinner.

Getting there

The Bike Across Southern Thailand Tour meets at Surat Thani International Airport in Surat Thani, Thailand and ends at Krabi Airport in Krabi, Thailand

Guests should plan their flights to arrive in Surat Thani before 16:00 (4 pm) on Day 1 of the tour and their departing flights from Krabi after 10:00 (10 am) on Day 10.

  Travel Tip:   Buying your domestic flight from Bangkok to Surat Thani or from Krabi separately from your international flight to Thailand is often a better value. But do leave sufficient time between flights (4 hours suggested).
