Day 1: Chiang Mai Arrival & Khan Toke Dinner

Welcome to Chiang Mai! Meet your fellow travelers and guides in this vibrant northern city. After settling into our lodge, we'll get everyone fitted with their bikes and then head out for a traditional northern Khan Toke dinner, complete with captivating Thai and hill tribe dancing performances.

Day 2: Ancient Ruins & Artisan Villages

We begin our cycling adventure exploring the ruins of Wiang Kum Kam, the first city founded by King Mengrai. After lunch, we'll immerse ourselves in the artistry of Baan Tawai, a village renowned for its intricate wood carvings. Tonight, we'll savor delicious Thai cuisine at our favorite riverside restaurant, enjoying the ambiance of the Mae Ping River.

Day 3: Mae Ping Valley & Rural Charm
  • Cycle along the Mae Ping River.

  • Ride through rice paddies to Baan Rai.
We cycle north, following quiet roads along the Mae Ping River, passing through charming villages and vibrant flower farms. We'll stop in Mae Rim for lunch and visit a local orchid grower and butterfly farm, experiencing the region's natural beauty. The afternoon brings a scenic ride through emerald rice paddies and past colorful temples en route to our overnight stay in the peaceful village of Baan Rai.

Day 4: Local Markets & Hot Spring Relaxation
  • Visit Mae Malai market.
  • Explore Wat Baan Den.
  • Cycle through Mae Ping Gorge.
Our morning ride takes us to Mae Malai, where we'll experience a bustling local market, overflowing with fresh produce and delicious street food. We'll also visit the magnificent Wat Baan Den, a stunning temple complex. Then, we'll cycle through the lush Mae Ping Gorge, enjoying the scenic beauty. Our day concludes at a delightful resort near Doi Chiang Dao, where we'll relax and rejuvenate in private hot spring pools.

Day 5: Golden Buddhas & Temple Cave Exploration
  • Visit a hill tribe market.
  • See the giant Buddha near Fang.
  • Explore Wat Tham Tub Tao (Temple Cave).
After breakfast, we'll cycle north, visiting a local hill tribe market offering unique products from Royal Projects. We'll then ascend to a beautiful giant Buddha statue perched beneath golden cliffs, enjoying panoramic views. A thrilling descent leads us to the agricultural region around Fang. Our final stop is Wat Tham Tub Tao, an ancient temple complex with hundreds of Buddha images inside a vast cavern. We'll explore this fascinating site before continuing to our overnight stop in Chai Prakan.

Day 6: Rural Valleys & Riverside Dining

Our final day of cycling takes us along quiet rural roads through the peaceful plains of northern Thailand. We'll discover unique Burmese-style temples with Buddha statues made from woven wicker. Enjoy countless photo opportunities amidst emerald rice paddies, charming villages, and remote temples. Our cycling tour culminates with a celebratory dinner at a fantastic restaurant overlooking the Mae Kok River.

Day 7: Departure

Our cycling holiday comes to an end today. After breakfast, we'll shuttle you back to Chiang Mai Airport, giving you one last chance to enjoy the beautiful scenery you've cycled through. *Khap khun khap, sawasdee khap* (Thank you, goodbye).

Getting there

The Northern Thailand Bike Tour meets and ends at Chiang Mai International Airport in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

Guests should plan their flights to arrive in Chiang Mai before 14:00 (2 pm) on Day 1 of the tour and their departing flights after 14:00 (2 pm) on Day 7.

  Travel Tip:   Buying your domestic flight from Bangkok to Chiang Mai separately from your international flight to Thailand is often a better value. But do leave sufficient time between flights (3 hours suggested).
